Membership News

In this edition, we have a report of our first Graduate Studies Workshop, news about registration for this year's Conference, a video from our core funder Pears Foundation and a personal memory of the late Dr Michael Feige from our Honorary President, Colin Shindler.

EAIS holds first Graduate Studies Workshop

We held our first Graduate Workshop in Israel Studies on 14 April 2016 at SOAS, University of London. EAIS Chair Alan Craig said, "I want to thank all the academic advisors for giving their time and expertise. This workshop is part of the EAIS's commitment to supporting early career researchers".

Graduate students participated from a variety of disciplines - their doctoral dissertations engaged with the study of Israel. They presented aspects of their research and received feedback on their research from peers and a panel of established academics.

The day-long workshop featured presentation and discussion on methodological, theoretical, practical and ethical issues arising from the graduate-level study of Israel. 19 participants travelled from France, Poland, Israel, Germany and the UK.

The workshop benefited greatly from the contributions of the academic panel members which included Prof. Colin Shindler (SOAS), Dr. Alan Craig (Leeds), Dr. Yair Wallach (SOAS), Dr. Lior Libman (UCL) and Dr. Jacob Ericsson (York). All gave their time freely. Read More....

The Pears Approach

EAIS wouldn't exist without the active support of the Pears Foundation. As well as covering our core costs they encourage strategic conversations essential for our work and developing Vision and Strategy.

Watch their new animated 3 minute video to understand their philosophy of philanthropic investment.

" We believe passionately in empowering people, in working with them and helping them on their journeys, whatever it is they need. it is their journey, not ours, but we hope, where possible, to travel together. We're there to help create a space for them to develop and move forward"  (Trevor Pears).
